As we all adjust to life after the events of 2020, we are having to find new ways to do things…and, for many of us, that includes how to celebrate birthdays in Lockdown. Here at Party Ideazz, we have been on the lookout for great ideas on how to make birthdays extra special while we are staying at home. So, if you are looking for some suggestions on how you can celebrate a Lockdown birthday (whether it’s your own or someone else’s), read on …

Celebrating with friends and family online

Meet up for a drink (or a few!) – set the date and time and have online drinks with friends. The apps Zoom and Houseparty are great for this (and Houseparty has the added bonus of built in games). You could also increase the fun levels with drinking games and fancy dress!
See the Cocktails page on our website for some delicious recipes to try, or have your favourite tipples delivered to your door. Cheshire Mobile Bars offer nationwide delivery and if you want to know how to create them, they can also host an online cocktail masterclass.

Have fun playing some silly games – again, Zoom and Houseparty are great for this. Get 2 (or more) households to join up and organise team games between households. A great one to try is a family friendly version of Beer Pong– each household had 15 numbered plastic cups (half filled with water) laid out in a triangular formation and a set of forfeits numbered 1-15. Players take it in turns to bounce a ping pong ball into a cup. If they get it in, someone in the opposing household does the corresponding forfeit. If they miss no forfeit is done. The winning team is the first to get a ball into each cup. Get inventive and see what other games you can make up!

Do a Pub Quiz –there are plenty of quizzes being held online and many are themed. A quick google search and you should find one that appeals. Then join up with friends on Zoom and create a birthday pub quiz team. Alternatively, host your own quiz with friends online– there are a multitude of quizzes on You Tube from music to general knowledge.

Have a Movie Party – Teleparty lets you enjoy parties with your friends – head to the Teleparty website, download the feature, select the film you want to watch with your friends and invite them to join you! (Virtually of course!)

Kids’ Parties  – many children’s entertainers are now providing online parties. Ella Bella’s Parties, based in Northampton, has created loads of brilliant online parties and discos to keep children entertained. And Goldilocks Entertainment provide bespoke virtual parties which are tailored around everything the birthday child loves.

Celebrating with members of your household

Video messages – if you are organising the celebrations for someone else in your household, plan ahead and collect video messages wishing the birthday boy / girl many happy returns. Ask people to make them as funny as they can and then show the messages throughout the day.

Princess & Superhero visits/calls – to make your child’s birthday magical why not get a favourite character to surprise them! Royle Princess Parties based in Suffolk, can provide zero contact doorstep visits from your child’s favourite princess. Iconic Parties also offer video messages from princesses and super heroes.

Party games – have a ‘traditional’ birthday party at home with the family – see our website for Party Games suggestions. You could even have sandwiches and jelly and ice cream!

A virtual ‘day out‘ –mark the occasion by visiting an attraction you have always wanted to see….from home, without the crowds and for free! Many places are providing virtual tours online including British Museum, Buckingham Palace, The National Gallery and Stonehenge.

Visit the zoo – many zoos have live webcams which you can access online. A great way to give a little animal lover a treat! Marwell Zoo, Edinburgh Zoo, and Chester Zoo are just 3 of the many UK zoos that are offering this. Of course you could even ‘travel’ abroad…try San Diego Zoo or Monterey Bay Aquarium to get you started!

Sibling Sleepovers – make a birthday at home more exciting with a teepee sleepover. These can be hired for DIY set ups and are fun for siblings or the whole family. As well as lots of themes to choose from, Twilight Teepee NI can also include a pamper pack and breakfast!

Champagne breakfast – make the most of the fact that we don’t have to drive anywhere and indulge in champagne for breakfast! Our idea of the perfect start to a birthday in Lockdown!

Hire a hot tub – it doesn’t matter what the weather is like, a hot tub can be used all year round. Most companies offer gazebos to protect you from the elements and some, like Eazy Event Hire have igloos to completely cover the tub. Igloos are also fantastic for a dinner set up in the garden during the cooler months.

Indoor picnic / afternoon tea – make a sharing platter of your favourite foods or order a grazing box to enjoy in front of the TV. For a special treat you could also put your glad rags on and order in afternoon tea.

Go ‘out’ for a meal – create a special 3 course meal at home. Make a delicious meal, get dressed up, open your favourite bottle of wine and enjoy! To make it extra special you could order from a private chef like Dorset based Dine Divine who can create an amazing restaurant quality meal delivered to your door.

Pub / cocktail crawl – have a drink in each room of your house! You could always create a different ambience in each room – candlelit room, party room, chillout room and so on.
